Secure File Transfer Solution in Education
Overview
Schools and universities disseminate a tremendous amount of information for which privacy must be maintained. Academic records, medical history, and other personal information is communicated from school to school, and from schools to parents and students.
Educational institutions are required to comply with Federal regulations, such as the Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act (FERPA), that protect student privacy and require notification on information access.
Ease of use is a critical requirement for a secure file transfer or secure email solution to be deployed at an educational institution. Providing Web, email, and MFP interfaces is a necessity for school administrators, parents, and students.
Biscom Delivery Server Solution
Biscom Delivery Server simplifies the problem of distributing paper, files, and messages to other schools as well as to parents and students. Files are uploaded into a "package" through a simple, user friendly Website. Packages can then be addressed to email recipients and delivered. BDS notifies recipients of new package deliveries and tracks when recipients login to retrieve the package. The creator of a package can quickly run reports on which recipients have downloaded files — and which ones have not.

Case Study
An school district in the southeastern US needed to exchange academic transcripts to and from other schools in support of transitioning students. Exchanging medical records, such as medication history and completion of physicals, to and from medical institutions, as well as other schools, was also a requirement.
The school districts historically solved these information delivery needs via certified mail and other courier service options. However, this was time consuming to prepare and deliver, and most importantly – costly. Each delivery incurred an incremental cost to the school district, for which budgets were already stressed, and cost cutting the order of the day.
The school district chose to implement BDS as secure message delivery and file transfer solution. Transcripts and other documents are scanned at an MFP, and sent securely through BDS. The school district incurs no per-delivery cost and delivers information instantly – all the while ensuring information privacy.
