We’ve returned from ILTA

We returned from the International Legal Technology Association’s (ILTA) annual conference in Las Vegas a few weeks back. It was great to connect with existing customers who stopped by our booth, as well as meet new prospects who shared with us some of their pain in transmitting confidential documents and files to co-counsel, clients, and other business associates they work with. Can you believe FTP is still the dominant way to share files? Not only is this unsecure, but from what we heard, it can take several days from the initial request to actually post files. And no tracking to speak of – you can’t tell whether recipients were able to open and download your files. So, our FTP replacement message was well received by the legal IT community.

As always, check our blog for more up-to-date information on the state of secure file transfer.

Customer Story

SpaceX, one of the most successful of the new breed of private space exploration companies in the world, uses BDS to collaborate on classified information securely. SpaceX CIO Branden Spikes has this to say about BDS:

“One of the biggest benefits of BDS is that it can run on our own network in the way I want to run it. BDS was the only solution that offered this level of configuration and customization....In fact, we’ve reduced the time to encrypt and send files from two hours to less than two minutes.”

Events

Mark Haas, Associate Director of Health Information Services at Mass General Hospital, is presenting his BDS-powered release of information (ROI) solution at the annual American Health Information Management Association (AHIMA) conference in Orlando. Mark’s session, DIY ROI – Do It Yourself Release of Information Is Finally Here, is on Wednesday, September 29th, at 9:15am. Be sure to check it out if you’re attending the conference.

October 8th, we’ll be doing a BDS for iManage presentation and demonstration. Stay tuned for more details on our web site. This will also be on the ILTA web site in the meetings section.

October 21st, will be doing a general BDS webinar for the legal market.

BDS Tech Tip of the Month

BDS 4.0 has a new collaboration feature. Based on the existing secure reply functionality, recipients of a delivery can now securely reply to the entire group of recipients and senders, adding both a secure message and files to the delivery. Senders have the option to move the uploaded files to the main package so future deliveries will then have access.

To enable this, system administrators must go to the Package Setting section of the Server Configuration page, and set the Enable collaboration radio button to yes. Senders must specify that a delivery will allow collaboration. There’s a checkbox called “Allow collaboration” in the delivery options section when creating or updating a delivery (if you don’t see this, make sure your administrator has enabled this feature, and you’re clicking the “show options” link to display the full delivery options).
