Security Breach and Notification Act (SB 1386)
California's Database Security Breach Notification Act (SB 1386) and General Security Standard for Businesses (AB 1950) require companies and government agencies that keep information on California residents to employ security controls that safeguard data, and in the case of a breach, notify the individuals affected. Personal information includes an individual's first name or first initial and last name in combination with any one or more of the following data elements:
- Social security number, driver's license number or California identification card number.
- Account number, credit or debit card number, in combination with any required security code, access code or password that permits access to an account.
- Medical information.
